Product Care & Help Guide
Proper cleaning, temperature handling, and storage help ensure hygienic food preparation and extend the lifespan of your kitchen tools. This guide from Oneweirrd provides general care and maintenance advice across our colanders, egg poachers, food domes, funnels, ice cream moulds, and kitchen scales. Please always refer to the specific instructions supplied with your individual item.
1. Colanders & Funnels: Washing & Drying
- Initial Wash: Wash new stainless steel or silicone colanders and funnels in warm soapy water before first use, and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
- Dishwasher Practices: Where items are labelled dishwasher-safe, place stainless steel colanders on the bottom or top rack, and place silicone funnels securely on the top rack away from exposed bottom heating elements.
- Preventing Starch & Mineral Build-up: After draining starchy pasta or rice water, rinse colanders immediately with warm tap water to prevent starchy residue from drying in the micro-perforations. For stainless steel water spots, wipe with a diluted vinegar-and-water solution.
2. Silicone Egg Poachers & Ice Cream Moulds: Temperature & Odour Care
- Light Oiling for Poachers: For easy, slide-out egg release, apply a light wipe of cooking oil or butter inside silicone poacher cups before cracking in your eggs.
- Freezer & Heat Limits: Food-grade silicone withstands typical freezer temperatures down to -20°C and boiling/baking heat up to 220°C. Never place silicone moulds over direct open stovetop flames or directly onto electric hob coils.
- De-odourising Silicone: Silicone can occasionally absorb strong food aromas (like garlic or citrus). If this occurs, soak moulds in a warm water and baking soda bath, or bake empty silicone moulds in a preheated oven at 100°C for 20 minutes to dissipate trapped odours.
3. Food Domes: Mesh Care & Acrylic Cleaning
- Fine Mesh Cleaning: Rinse stainless steel wire food covers under a warm tap and gently clean with a soft sponge and dish soap. Avoid pressing heavily against the wire mesh to preserve its dome shape.
- Acrylic Covers: Wipe clear plastic domes with a damp microfibre cloth and mild washing-up liquid. Never use abrasive scouring pads, window cleaner sprays, or boiling water on acrylic covers, as harsh abrasives can scratch optical clarity.
4. Digital Kitchen Scales: Platform Care & Calibration
- Zero-Submersion Warning: Electronic kitchen scales contain precision load cells and digital circuits. Never immerse kitchen scales in water or place them in a dishwasher. Wipe the tempered glass or stainless steel weighing platform clean using a well-wrung, lightly damp cloth.
- Flat Surface Operation: Always operate digital scales on a completely flat, rigid kitchen worktop. Soft surfaces (such as silicone baking mats or tea towels) can cushion the feet and lead to inaccurate gram readings.
- Battery Maintenance: If you do not intend to use your kitchen scale for several months, remove the batteries to prevent internal terminal corrosion from battery leakage.
5. Product-Specific Instructions
The guidance on this page is general care and maintenance advice. Capacities, heat ratings, microwave compatibility, and dishwasher suitability vary by model. Always follow the instructions and specifications provided on the relevant product page and with your item. Do not exceed stated scale load capacities or expose utensils to heat sources outside their rated temperature tolerances.
